Colliers Moss Common
- Location: St Helens
- Project type: Remediation and Land Engineering
Colliers Moss is a 4 mile walking circuit situated in St Helens and is a part of Bold Forest Park. It was created on the spoil and waste of the former bold colliery and power station. Nature has now taken over the area but had suffered from environmental vandalism. This occurred over a prolonged period which left the site unsuitable for use.
The site needed to be remediated and regenerated with the construction of new walkways and areas. Existing asbestos pipes had been left exposed from the brownfield site making the area unsafe. Colliers Moss also had very sensitive ecological habitats so all material imported had to be chemically suitable for use on site. The aim was to make Colliers Moss a public amenity once again.
Under our Cl:aire DoW Cop scheme we have imported clean material for the construction of new walkways and viewing mound, giving residents and visiting users a better walking experience. We removed asbestos pipes in a legally correct manner, meaning the area is now suitable to be used. All areas have been seeded for both environmental and visual affects, with new areas being created for the future planting of trees.
The site is now open for public usage, with some final site works taking place for phase 2.
