Colliers Moss Common

Colliers Moss is a 4-mile walking circuit situated in St Helens and is part of Bold Forest Park.

It was created on the spoil and waste of the former bold colliery and power station. The site had been redeveloped, with nature now taking over the area.

Over the years the site suffered environmental vandalism which left areas unsafe for the local community and surrounding wildlife. Booth Ventures were approached by Mersey Forest to restore these areas.

The site needed to be remediated and regenerated due to the prolonged period of vandalism which left existing asbestos pipes exposed. These needed to be removed, however, this left void space which needed to be filled back to ground level.

In order to restore the site, we imported suitable materials using a CL:AIRE DoW CoP scheme. Due to the very sensitive ecological habitats, which need to be preserved, we instructed an independent verification process to highlight material compliance.

During importation, 150,000 + tonnes of suitable material was analysed to ensure its chemical and physical properties were compliant with the agreed acceptance criteria.

Onsite engineers shaped areas of the site to include environmental walkways and viewing mounds, improving the overall experience. These areas were seeded to improve the visual landscape and new areas were developed for the future planting of trees.

Colliers Moss Common has now been restored and can be safely utilised as a part of the local community.
